HSA/FSA-Eligible Mobile Massage in Southern California | i‑thriv

Qualified customers may use HSA or FSA funds for medically necessary in-home massage through Truemed and i‑thriv Wellness Anywhere.

Can You Use HSA or FSA Funds for an In-Home Massage?

Massage may feel like a luxury, but for some people, it can also support the management of a diagnosed health condition.

If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA), you may qualify to use those pre-tax funds toward eligible massage sessions with i‑thriv Wellness Anywhere.

Through Truemed, customers complete a private health assessment that is reviewed by an independent licensed clinician. When appropriate, the clinician provides a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN).

i‑thriv then brings your massage directly to your home, hotel, office, or vacation rental across Southern California.

Is Massage Automatically HSA/FSA Eligible?

No. A massage booked only for general relaxation is not automatically considered an eligible medical expense.

Massage may qualify when it is used to treat, manage, or reduce the effects of a diagnosed condition and the customer has the required documentation.

An LMN explains why a service is medically necessary for a specific diagnosed condition. i‑thriv does not diagnose conditions or determine eligibility. An independent clinician makes that determination, and your HSA/FSA administrator has final authority over reimbursement.

How Truemed Works With i‑thriv

Step 1: Complete the Health Assessment

Select See If You Qualify and complete Truemed’s private health survey. You may be asked about your health history, diagnosed condition, reason for seeking massage, and HSA/FSA administrator.

An independent licensed clinician will review your responses. Completing the assessment does not guarantee approval.

Step 2: Book and Pay With a Regular Card

Choose your i‑thriv in-home massage and pay with a regular credit or debit card.

Do not use your HSA or FSA card during i‑thriv checkout. Save your itemized receipt because you may need it for reimbursement.

Step 3: Request Reimbursement

If you qualify, Truemed will provide your LMN and instructions for submitting your purchase to your HSA/FSA administrator.

You may need to submit:

  • Your Letter of Medical Necessity
  • Your itemized i‑thriv receipt
  • Your booking confirmation
  • Your administrator’s reimbursement form

Truemed states that claims are typically paid within one to two weeks, but actual processing times depend on your plan administrator.

Who May Benefit From Medically Necessary Massage?

When considered appropriate by a qualified clinician, massage may support people experiencing:

  • Chronic musculoskeletal pain
  • Muscle tension or discomfort
  • Limited mobility or stiffness
  • Recovery from an injury or physical overuse
  • Recovery after surgery when medically appropriate
  • Physical tension related to a diagnosed stress or anxiety condition
  • Sleep problems connected to a diagnosed condition

Massage is supportive care and does not replace medical treatment, medication, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or advice from your healthcare provider.

Speak with your healthcare provider before receiving massage if you have a new injury, recent surgery, blood-clot risk, fever, infection, or uncontrolled medical condition.

Why Choose In-Home Massage From i‑thriv?

Traveling to a spa can be difficult when you are experiencing pain, fatigue, stiffness, limited mobility, transportation challenges, or a busy schedule.

i‑thriv brings professional massage directly to you, providing:

  • No driving or searching for parking
  • Care in a familiar, private environment
  • Greater comfort for clients with mobility or sensory needs
  • Massage equipment, fresh linens, and standard supplies
  • A session customized to your comfort and pressure preferences
  • An easier way to maintain a consistent wellness routine

Your provider will arrive with the necessary equipment. You only need to prepare a clean, comfortable area with enough room to safely set up the massage table.

HSA vs. FSA

An HSA is generally available with a qualifying high-deductible health plan. The funds belong to you and normally roll over from year to year.

An FSA is offered through an employer. Some unused funds may expire at the end of the plan year, although certain plans allow a limited carryover or grace period.

Check your balance, deadlines, documentation requirements, and reimbursement rules directly with your account administrator.

How Much Could You Save?

Qualified customers may reduce the effective cost of eligible services by using pre-tax HSA/FSA funds. Truemed reports average savings of approximately 30%, but actual savings depend on your tax circumstances and plan rules.

Eligibility, reimbursement, and savings are not guaranteed.
