Sound you feel, not just hear
Vibroacoustic therapy (VAT) is an immersive experience where low-frequency sound is delivered directly into the body through a specialized mat or table with embedded transducers. You lie down fully clothed, and rhythmic sound vibrations travel through muscle and connective tissue while soothing music plays through speakers or headphones.
It's often described as a deeply grounding, meditative experience — many people report a slower heart rate, softer breathing, and a heavy, calm sensation that lingers long after the session ends.
On its own — or paired with massage
Vibroacoustic Therapy is available as a standalone session or as an enhancement to a massage. Book it solo when you want a purely restorative, meditative reset. Combine it with massage when you want your therapist's hands-on work amplified by the sound-vibration base — great for chronic tension, high-stress weeks, and post-travel recovery.
Common reasons people book it
VAT is used by clients looking for a nervous-system reset without needing to "do" anything active. You aren't guided through breathwork or meditation — you simply rest and let the sound do the work.
- •Deep relaxation and stress relief after intense work or travel weeks
- •Sleep support and quieting a busy mind
- •A gentler alternative or complement to deep-tissue massage
- •Post-event or post-race recovery
- •A novel, memorable experience for retreats and wellness days
What a session looks like
Your provider brings the vibroacoustic mat or table, cushions, and sound system. You lie down clothed and comfortable, choose from a curated set of sound programs (or let your provider pick based on your intention), and simply relax for the duration of the session. If paired with massage, the two flow together seamlessly.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does vibroacoustic therapy actually feel like?+
Most people describe it as being gently "held" by sound — a warm, heavy, grounding sensation as low-frequency vibrations move through the body. It's calming rather than stimulating, and you stay fully clothed the whole time.
Do I have to book vibroacoustic therapy with a massage?+
No. It works as a standalone session or paired with a massage — massage is an optional enhancement, not required. Book it however fits your goal for the session.
Who is vibroacoustic therapy a good fit for?+
Anyone looking for deep relaxation, stress relief, sleep support, or a gentler alternative to intense bodywork. It's especially popular with clients who find seated meditation difficult but want a similar nervous-system reset.
Are there any medical reasons not to do vibroacoustic therapy?+
It's generally considered safe and gentle, but if you have a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, are in the first trimester of pregnancy, have a seizure disorder, deep vein thrombosis, or a recent surgery/fracture, check with your healthcare provider first.
What do I wear for a vibroacoustic session?+
Loose, comfortable clothing you can lie down in — sweats, leggings, a soft tee. You stay fully clothed the entire session.
How long is a vibroacoustic therapy session?+
Standalone sessions typically run 30–60 minutes. When paired with massage, the combined session runs 60–120 minutes depending on what you book.
Do I need to know anything about sound healing to try it?+
Not at all. You don't need to meditate, breathe a certain way, or do anything active. Lie down, close your eyes, and let the sound work.
